This blog is going to be all about music and it's elements, ranging from the complicated to simple, and reflecting on the enjoyability of the music. I haven't established a formula yet for how I'm going to move through artists and albums, but I will sum it up here for reference sake, as some people get butt-hurt when they don't understand what's going on and they are too afraid of using their brains for more than a moment in fear they may injure themselves...rightfully so.
I suppose what I hope to achieve is a better picture, at least for myself, of what the art of music truly is, as opposed to what we perceive.
Anyway, no formula yet, but here's some ideas of things I'll look at:
overall sound
musical talent
vocals
instruments
technological aspects
musicality
rhythm and melody
mood
lyrics
genre
contemporaries
time period
influences
audience
mainstream appeal
There may be more or less by the time I really start reviewing bands (look for next week), but one thing you won't find is a numeric identification. Look at that list and tell me you can ascribe a numerical formula that will accurately place a musical talent on a scale, now look back at me and realize you are stupid.
I will be honest and critical, but hopefully I will find something I like and something I dislike about every musician, as I don't believe taste can be so black and white that I can't dislike something that I love. Of course, there's always Mike Patton.
